As of June 2023, British Heart Foundation says there are more than 30,000 deaths from out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year, and fewer than one in ten people currently survive.
Prompt CPR and defibrillation can more than double someone’s chances of survival. Unfortunately Defibrillators are only used in just 10 per cent of out of hospital cardiac arrests as per their study . NICE guidelines suggests Immediate initiation of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation can double or quadruple survival from out of hospital cardiac arrest, and defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of collapse can produce survival rates up to 50–70%.
Rathin Med did a simulation study of Drone AED delivery in a out of hospital cardiac arrest scenario with the help of a Garuda Aerospace drone on a mannequin in India. We are planning to trial the above in one of the NHS hospitals in the UK.
